Frequently Asked Questions House League and Select
Who can play House League?
House League is open to ages 4 through 18 and is co-ed. No previous hockey experience is necessary. Skating experience is also not required at the U9 and younger level but can be an asset in the older age divisions of U10 and older.
Why are divisions called U9, U10 etc.?
These are the Hockey Canada designations by age. The “U” stands for Under. So for example, U9 means the player is Under 9 or 8 years old.
Do you combine age divisions?
Age divisions are combined from U10 to U18 (U10/U11, U12/U13, U14/U15, U16/U17/U18). U8 and U9 are separate divisions due to the Hockey Canada half ice mandate. U7 and younger are divided into three groups according to skill level.
When and where does House League play?
House League games are on Saturdays starting at 7 am with our U8 division and go through until 10 pm with our 3 on 3 U18 division. The U7 division plays from 7 am to 10 am on Sunday mornings.
To maximize hockey development, we offer bi-weekly skills sessions run by professional instructors for U8 to U13 on alternating Mondays between 5 pm and 9 pm. U7 division has skills sessions on alternating Saturday mornings between 7 am and 9 am.
Games and skills sessions take place in Ted Reeve arena with the exception of U7 skills sessions which take place in the Bubble next to Ted Reeve arena.
Do you balance teams during the season?
To ensure that all players have the best possible hockey experience, teams are rebalanced early on in the season. ALL players are subject to movement during team rebalancing.
Can friends request to play on the same team?
There is only 1 friend request per player and it must be reciprocated. Friend requests can be made in writing to the Registrar before July 31, 2022. We will ensure that there are a minimum of two girls on the same team. Team balancing overrules all player friend requests.
How can I register for House League?
Registration is online through Hockey Canada. To register visit our website at www.tedreevehockey.com and click on the red Register bar in the top right corner and then follow the prompts.
Registration usually opens in mid- to late April. Check our website for updates. It is important to register early as divisions fill up quickly.
What equipment do I need?
Full equipment is required. There is a detailed list of required equipment on our house league page and includes helmet, neck guard, elbow pads, shoulder pads, shin pads, hockey pants, jock/jill, skates, gloves, and stick.
Can I coach my child’s team or volunteer in any way?
Absolutely! We are always looking for coaches, assistant coaches, convenors, and volunteers in general to help out. You can indicate interest on the questionnaire during the registration process or email trregistration@outlook.com.
What is included in my fees?
In addition to games and skills development, all players receive a jersey and socks plus an 8 x 10 individual and team photo collage. The end of the season finishes with Championship Day and includes trophies and pizza.
What is Select hockey?
Select Hockey is for registered house league players that would like more hockey and competition. Players need to try out for teams. Tryouts occur in the Spring for U14 and older and in the Fall for U13 and younger.
Select players must play House League at Ted Reeve and be registered in HL at Ted Reeve before trying out for Select. The North York Hockey League organizes and schedules Select hockey games. There is an additional game and practice per week (on top of house league games and skills sessions) and costs an additional amount.
